Prof. Lu Hongzhou is a distinguished clinician–scientist and leader in infectious diseases, currently serving as Director of Shenzhen Third People’s Hospital (Second Hospital Affiliated to Southern University of Science and Technology), Director of the National Clinical Research Center for Infectious Diseases, Deputy Dean of the Medical School of Southern University of Science and Technology, and Full Professor of Internal Medicine. He received his MBBS from Bengbu Medical College and PhD in Internal Medicine from Shanghai Medical University, and completed postdoctoral training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, USA. Prof. Lu has dedicated over three decades to clinical practice, education, and research in infectious diseases, with major contributions to HIV/AIDS functional cure, emerging and re-emerging infections, rational antibiotic use, and severe respiratory and CNS infections. He has published over 500 peer-reviewed papers in leading journals including NEJM, Nature, and Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy, authored 15 books, holds 15 patents, and has led more than 60 major research grants. Recognized globally, he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, listed among Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists (2021–2024), and ranked in the top 0.05% scholars worldwide by ScholarGPS. Prof. Lu holds key advisory roles with the World Health Organization and national health authorities, has led responses to major public health emergencies including COVID-19 and Mpox, and is Editor-in-Chief of iLABMED. His work has been honored with numerous national and international awards for scientific, clinical, and public health excellence.
