Dr. Vanderlei Bagnato is a distinguished physicist and engineer whose illustrious career spans over four decades of groundbreaking research, academic leadership, and innovation in optics, photonics, and biomedical applications of laser technology. He earned dual B.S. degrees in Materials Engineering from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCAR) and in Physics from the University of São Paulo (USP), followed by an M.S. in Physics from USP and a Ph.D. in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Currently, he serves as a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University while holding a full professorship at the Institute of Physics at São Carlos (IFSC/USP), Brazil. Over the years, Dr. Bagnato has held numerous prestigious roles, including Director of IFSC, Coordinator of the USP Innovation Agency, and long-term Coordinator of Brazil’s National Institute of Science and Technology of Optics and Photonics. Dr. Liang Liu began his journey in the field of life sciences with a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Life Sciences, South-Central University for Nationalities (2006–2010). His academic curiosity led him to pursue a Ph.D. at the School of Biology and Biological Engineering, South China University of Technology, where he delved into the intricate world of molecular biology (2010–2015).
