Prof. Dr. Yuhui Sun is a Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China. He received his Ph.D. from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge in Professor Peter F. Leadlay’s group. He served as a Professor at Wuhan University before joining HUST. His research focuses on microbial natural product discovery, biosynthesis, and the development of advanced genetic and genome-editing tools, particularly CRISPR-Cas9–based base editors. Professor Sun has led eight major national and provincial research projects, published 69 SCI-indexed papers with an H-index of 25 and over 1,900 citations, authored a Springer Nature book chapter, and holds nine international and Chinese patents. He has extensive industry collaboration experience, serves on multiple international editorial boards, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK). Internationally recognized for elucidating complex biosynthetic mechanisms and creating hybrid microbial medicines, he has also developed widely adopted genome-editing technologies shared with over 80 research groups worldwide.

He holds a PhD (2018) and MSc (2009) in crop genetics and breeding, as well as a postgraduate qualification in forestry science (2004), all from Qinghai University in Xining, China. With professional experience spanning roles at the Agricultural Technology Promotion Center in Gonghe County and the Sino-Canada joint venture Jason Group Corporation Luyuan Ecology Co., Ltd, his research has focused on the genetics and breeding of Spring Brassica napus, potato, and faba bean. Mr. Melesse Tadesse Upa (MSc), a highly dedicated Ethiopian biotechnologist, currently serves as the Head and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biotechnology at Wolaita Sodo University, Ethiopia, where he has been contributing since 2021 after earlier roles as a Biology teacher in Dawro zone. Born on 28 July 1995 in Essera Wereda of the Dawro zone, he holds an MSc in Biotechnology from Arba Minch University, a B.Sc. in Biology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching from Hawassa University, complemented by extensive professional certifications including a Higher Diploma License, English proficiency, GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS, Python), and a Master Class in Online Teaching. His research interests span food microbiology, microbial physiology, traditional toxicology, molecular food microbiology, soil microbiology, microbial ecology, bacterial wilt disease, toxicogenomics, heavy metal–gene–protein interactions, and metabolite analysis from medicinal plants. With strong skills in laboratory and fieldwork, molecular techniques, biostatistics, fermentation engineering, microscopy, plant tissue culture, and advanced data analysis tools (SPSS, Origin, GIS), he has taught a wide range of undergraduate biotechnology and biology courses including Molecular Biology, Environmental Biotechnology, Industrial Biotechnology, and Microbial Biotechnology. Melesse is an articulate and highly motivated scientist known for his ability to work under pressure, communicate research outputs effectively, and lead innovative laboratory research collaborations.
